Juttis are colorful Indian slippers made of leather, decorated with embroidery, beads, and mirrors. They happen to originate from Punjab, and are available everywhere in Amritsar. They hang from store ceilings and are showcased on shop walls like jewels. It’s eye candy to wander the streets and see men and women try juttis in all shapes, sizes, and colors. They can be used to dress up or dress down.

Jalebis are pretzel-looking sweets available all over India. Though I’m partial to other Indian sweets, I can’t help but smile when I see jalebis. They are so characteristically Indian, chubby, and happy looking. I’ll often find children eating them with their families on the street side, and it reminds me of my childhood summers spent in Delhi.
